بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Yaqeen Institute aims to bring together a variety of Muslim scholars, academics, and intellectuals to address topics that are important to the Muslim community. Many of these topics are related to the Qur’anic sciences. Alhamdulillah, we are proud to announce the addition of the Qur’anic Studies department, led by Sh. Yousef Wahb, to our Research team.
Under his leadership, the Qur’anic Studies department will provide guidance on crucial topics such as Quranic ethics, the miraculous nature of the Quran, the preservation of the Quran, the origin and transmission of variant readings, Qur’anic hermeneutics (tafseer), and enhancing the spiritual connection with the Quran we experience every day.
Sh. Wahb holds a Bachelor's of Islamic Studies from Al-Azhar University in Egypt, from the Faculty of Languages and Translation. He holds multiple Ijazahs in Fiqh, Hadith, Arabic language, and Quran including the 10 modes of recitation (Qira’at). He has a University Teaching Certificate and is completing his Master’s in Law (LLM) at the University of Windsor, Canada.
We asked Sh. Yousef about his thoughts on the new department and what he has planned for it this year, insh’Allah.
Q: How do you feel about joining Yaqeen?
A: I have been following Yaqeen’s work for some time and I have seen its meaningful impact on the community throughout my work as an Imam and Chaplain. The vision, the significant contributions, and the impact Yaqeen has on the general population of English speaking Muslims as well as scholars and researchers are profound. A few months ago, I joined Yaqeen as a Research Fellow and it is a blessing to further my contributions alongside the research team.
Q: What is the significance of adding this new research department? How do you see that it helps us fulfill Yaqeen's mission?
A: An independent Quranic Studies department is very important to provide scholarship on Quranic Sciences, Tafseer methodologies, Qira’at, and translation of relevant scholarly works written in other languages. The department’s mandate of critically engaging with textuality literature aligns with Yaqeen’s larger vision of nurturing conviction and dismantling doubts given the centrality of Quran in our theology, law, and spirituality.
Q: What are your plans and goals for the Qur'anic Studies Department?
A: I am currently working on establishing a team of researchers drawing from existing Yaqeen resources and other Islamic scholars across the globe. In developing the 2021 roadmap, I am identifying priority areas of research by collecting and incorporating the feedback of experts.
May Allah guide him in this noble task and allow Yaqeen to provide the community with valuable resources on the Qur’anic sciences through his expertise.
